Hi there, we’re Asylum Productions, a small theatre company in rural Ireland, that centres its work around paying attention.
2024 saw us producing a brand new sustainable, outdoor theatre work - First Light as part of Carlow Arts Festival in June and developing a new, large-scale work for 2026;
In 2025 we continue our residency at The Watergate Theatre in our home city of Kilkenny, and focusing a lot of our energy on that large-scale work for 2026 - more on that soon.
2025 also sees us producing a brand new work for stage by Roderick Ford;
Twinning with the extraordinary Slung Low over in Leeds in the UK (really worth checking them out here);
Alongside continuing our amazing partnership with Once Off Productions to create new and exciting works of theatre.
What is the point of us?
Good question.
We usually make unusual theatre in unusual spaces, with unusual people, usually outside of a theatre, often in rural Ireland, usually with people that don’t usually work in theatre. Or go to theatre. Or think much about theatre in any way except when we come along.
We aim to create extraordinary acts of theatre and community, empowering others to join us in making great art.
